Home Stars has a project tool to allow you to research multiple contractors at once and then you can compare them. Keeps the user from having to write things down or loose information from going from one listing to another. The project tool also allows a user to save quotes and refer to them later.
A forum for users to post question and contractors to help. Everyone has that simple “what do I do about” question this forum helps users and gives contractors an opportunity to build a reputation on what they know. Everybody can remember the helpful one.
From Home Stars
HomeStars.com is a growing online community of homeowners and home improvement companies throughout Canada and the U.S. HomeStars offers a free service for homeowners to find reputable renovators, repairmen and retailers by searching its database of almost 2 million companies. Homeowners write reviews based on their home improvement experiences – both good and bad. This builds a collective knowledge base that is invaluable in helping homeowners make better decisions on whom to hire. Our forum allows homeowners to dialogue with each other, ask questions, help others and tell their stories.
Reputation matters. Companies see the value in this feedback, and proactively respond to reviews written about them as well as participate in the issues and discussions homeowners are struggling with.
How We Started
Nancy Peterson, co-founder and President of HomeStars, learned about the challenges of finding reputable home service trades while doing an extensive renovation on her own home.
As the effort to track down and select good contractors mounted, Nancy thought: Word-of-mouth referrals from friends and neighbors are so helpful, but take so much time to collect. If only I could create an online database of referrals (reviews) written by homeowners like me.
With co-founder Andrew Goodman (an online marketing expert) Nancy developed HomeStars in order to provide an online forum for homeowners to find good referrals and let the best contractors, renovators and retailers tell their story through the words of their customers.
Our Review Process
The many contractors and retailers who go the extra mile deserve great reviews from customers, and the ones who botch their jobs or offer poor service usually warrant critical comments from their clients. However, not all the reviews we receive are suitable for publishing. We’re rigorous about ensuring that reviews are real and provide substantive information about the job and the quality of the work such that others can learn from the information provided. We are constantly improving our review verification process to ensure we have only high quality reviews on the site. Business owners are also free to respond to both positive and negative reviews, demonstrating their openness to feedback and improving their service.
Audience snapshot. Based on internet averages, homestars.com is visited more frequently by users who are in the age range 45-54, have no college education and browse this site from work.
